The Histopathological Observation on the Chronic Palatine Tonsillitis

Abstract
The author observed histopathologically on the 120 palatine tonsils, obtained from 70 cases (male 37, female 33) having chronic palatinectonsillitis. The results obtained were as follows:
1) On the surface epithelium of the tonsil, moderate or marked hyperplasia was seen in 61 tonsils (51.6%), cellular infiltration, keratinization and epithelial defect were present in a few cases.
However, on the crypt epithelium of the tonsil, hyperplasia was seen in 40 tonsils (33.3%), cellular infiltration in 42 tonsils(35. 0%), and also keratinization and epithelial defect were present in considerable number of the cases.
2) On the subepithelial tissue of the tonsillar surface, hyperplasia of connective tissue was seen in 53 tonsils(44.1%), celluar infiltration in 30 tonsils(25.0%), capillary proliferation, ulceration, bleeding and small abscess were present in a few cases.
However, on the subepithelil tissue of the crypt of the tonsil, hyperplasia of connective tissue was seen in 36 tonsils (30.0%), cellular infiltration in 47 tonsils (37.1%), ulceration, bleeding and small abscess were present in a few cases.
3) On the lymphoid follicle, hyperplasia of follicle was seen in 37 cases (30.9%), atrophy, edema and bleeding were present in a few cases.
4) On the capsule, hyperplasia, cellular infiltration and capillary proliferation were seen in a few cases.
5) On the blood vessels, thickening of the arterial wall was seen in 72 tonsils (60.6%), thrombus and cellular infiltration were, present in artery and vein: of few cases.
6) The various pathological. changes of the chronically inflamed tonsil showed much milder in antibiotics era than. before antibiotics era.
